Community lectures restart with the big issue of climate change

St George’s Church is restarting its popular Community Lecture series in October 2023, with a local speaker, Giovanna Speciale, an inspiring entrepreneur and co-op founder who has won awards for her work on climate change.

The title of the talk to be given by Giovanna at 8pm on Thursday October 12th is ‘Empowering Greenwich: climate action in South East London.’

“These talks are free and open to everyone” explains Reverend Laura Faturoti, vicar at St George’s.

Giovanna Speciale is CEO and founder of the renewable energy co-operative SELCE (South East London Community Energy). Under her leadership, the co-op has installed solar panels on the roof of seven sites, including schools across Greenwich and Lewisham. She also took a look at whether solar panels could go on the roof of St. George’s, but sadly it wasn’t the ideal location!

Giovanna also advises households on energy efficiency, how to save money on fuel bills and on access support to avoid fuel poverty.

“Come along, bring a friend and let’s explore what we can do together to tackle climate change” says Reverend Laura.

The second in the new lecture series will be on Artificial Intelligence, in early 2024. All ideas for future lecture topics are warmly welcome, let us know your suggestions.
