Community Lecture – After the riots

St George’s Church organises community lectures 3 times a year, on themes we hope are of innterest to the local community. These are not “religious” in tone or focus, but seek to be a way that the community can engage with high profile topics and consider how they impact us locally and how we can respond, collectively and individually.

Previous themes have been included:

Empowering Greenwich: Climate Action in South East London

Addressing Anxiety: What Shakespeare can teach us

Is AI taking over the world?

Our next lecture will be on Wednesday 9th October on the theme of ‘After the riots – community responses and how hardship harms us all’.

The speaker is Laurence Smith, the inspiring founder of a local charity, the Lewisham Donation Hub. The event, is in memory of the much-loved late vicar at St George’s, Tim Yeager, who campaigned successfully for the local authority to welcome and house refugee families locally.

Rev Laura Faturoti comments that “after the recent spate of racist riots, we are looking to create space for a conversation on how we respond as a diverse and open community here in Westcombe Park.”

Wednesday October 9th, 8pm at St George’s, Glenluce Road SE3 7SD, free

Oh… and with drinks and nibbles after.
